I Wasn’t Looking for a Letter…

I was walking along, minding my own business, when I saw this formation on the ground.  Accidental?  Human-made?  All I know is, I wasn’t looking for a member of the alphabet, and yet here was an A for the taking.  Perhaps I’ll start a collection of such “accidental” letters — would it be possible to find all twenty-six?

Making Books

I possess a number of books about making books, the best of which are Book + Art: Handcrafting Artists’ Books by Dorothy Simpson Krause, and Real Life Journals by Gwen Diehn.  The first has beautiful examples of quite precious one-of-a-kind books, and the second is much more of a how-to book depending on your particular needs and uses for hand-made books.  I’ve learned through making mistakes that cover board weight is important, as is the type of glue, and that it is quite easy to break a binding needle.  I assume that, like everything, you acquire knowledge through practice.  There is only so much reading about making that you can do on the subject before you actually have to buckle down and try.  What you really need to do is understand the materials and the processes.
